Morning Meditation Chants

PRABHĀTA SMARANAM

When I was in India studying meditation many years ago, every morning would begin with a recitation of what are called Prabhāta Smaranam or Morning Meditation Chants.

This was a beautiful way to begin our mornings as we prepared ourselves for the day ahead.

They are to be chanted consecutively and in a monotone fashion as most mantras are to be recited. Once you finish with the mantra you may repeat it as many times as you wish.

Here is a link for audio recordings of all of these mantras:

1. Om……………. Om……………… Om…………..

Om is the divine sound of infinity, the essence of all mantras, and the source of Blessing. Om mantra chanting symbolizes an auspicious beginning. It is the expressive sound symbol of Consciousness in its four domains from the Turiya to the external or material plane. Om is the Global language of peace and harmony.

2. Om Mahā Ganapataye Namah

(My salutations to the divinity in the form of Ganapathi, the remover of obstacles).

3. Om, Ādityāya Namah

(My salutations to the divinity in the form of Sun, the bestower of good health)

4. Om Ambikāyai Namah

(My salutations to the divinity in the form of Nature, who nourishes all the living beings).

5. Om Visnave Namah

(My salutations to the divinity in the form of Visnu, who sustains the universe).

6. Om Maheśvarāya Namah

(My salutations to the divinity in the form of Shiva, who resolves the universe)

7. Om Sarvebhyo Gurubhyo Namah

(My salutations to all the gurus and masters who bestowed the supreme knowledge to humanity)

8. Om Sarvebhyo Rsibhyo Namah

(My salutations to all the Sages who preserved and shared the sacred knowledge).

9. Om Sarvebhyo devatābhyo Name

(My salutations to all the angels and forces, who help in gaining the knowledge and immortality).

10. Om Yogena cittasya padena vacam \ malam śarirasya ca vaidyakena

Yopākarot tam pravaram muninam \ patañjailm prāñjali rānatosmi ||

(I salute the exalted Sage Patañjali, who removes impurities of the mind through Yoga Śāstra, defects of language by Vyākarana Śāstra, and impurities of the Body by Āyurveda Śastra).

11. Om Sa ha nāvavatu sa ha nau bhunaktu sa ha vïryam karavāvahai. |

Tejasvināva-dhītamastu | Mā vidvisāvahai |Om śāntih śantih šantih ||

(May the Supreme Being indeed, protect both of us. May that consciousness indeed, nourish both of us. May we together acquire the capacity (to study and understand the scriptures). May our study be brilliant. May we not disagree with each other. Om Peace, Peace, Peace).

12. Om Svassti prajābhyah paripālayantām | Nyāyyeba mārgena mahīm mahīšāh |Go brāhmanebhya śśubhamastu nityam

Lokāssamastāssukhino bhaiantu ||

(May there be happiness for all people. May the rulers righteously rule the earth. May there be welfare for cows and people of wisdom at all times. May all the people in the Universe be happy and prosper).

13. Om Sarve bhavantu sukhinah | sarve santu nirāmayāh | Serve bhadrāni paśyantu | mā kascid duhkhabhāg bhavet ||

(May all be happy. May all be free from diseases. May all enjoy prosperity. May none experience sorrow).

14. Om Asato mā sadgamaya | tamaso mā jyotirgamaya | Martyr mā amrtam gamaya | Om śāntih śāntih śāntih ||

(Om the Supreme Being! Lead me (by giving knowledge) from unreal to the real; From darkness (of ignorance) to light (of knowledge); from death (sense of limitations) to Immortality (limitlessness, liberation).

Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

15. Om Tryambakam yajāmahe sugandhim pusthivardhnam |Urvārukamiva bandhanān mrtyormuksīya mā mrtāt ||

(We offer our worship to the fragrant, three-eyed Lord Shiva who enhances prosperity. May he liberate us from the bandage of death like the watermelon (which effortlessly separates from the vine); may he not (let us turn away) immortality).

16. Om pūrnamadah pūrnamidam pūrnātpūrnamudacyate |Pūrnasya pūrnamādāya pūrnamevāvaśisyate ||Om śāntih śāntih śāntih ||

(That pure consciousness is full (perfect); this (the Manifested Universe of matter; of names and forms being Maya) is full. This fullness has been projected from the fullness. When this fullness merges in that fullness, all that remains is fullness. Om Peace Peace Peace.)

Harih Om Srī Gurubhyo Namah Harih Om Tat Sat

(Hail to Hari, hail to all the Gurus/ There is only one truth and that alone exists).

Enjoy their Magic!!
